Embers

Memories wash ashore like waves
Now lapping at golden sands
In gentle caress
Now pounding at rocks
In a spray of white fury

Crystal blankets create
Myriad patterns in shifting sands
Tiny whirlpools of images
As they withdraw.
Stormy whiplash beckons with intensity
Leaving a numbness
Where it strikes.

Earth and water meet
In serenity and turmoil
As distinctions blur
And memories
Are not just memories anymore.

Restless strokes on canvas:
Bold brushwork scoring the fabric
In wild outpouring of Emotion.

Green, Blue and Yellow
Swirl with Red and Orange
Black lines
Thick, powerful -
Radiate the emotive energy
Of the Inner Self.

Vibrant tints
Pulsate in living rhythms
Of tortured Soul
That finds expression:
Restless strokes on canvas.

Unquenched embers smolder
Unperceived, Ignored
Blood red desire slumbers
Beneath a mantle of ashen grey.

The camouflage serves:
For it lulls to silence
A world of jealous green
That equates the surfaces --
The cinders and the man.

I do not despair
And I am serene
Secure in the knowledge
That a whiff of your breath
Will blow away the cinders
And rekindle to roaring flame
What now only hibernates.

Let the unquenched embers smolder.
